Ultimate bakeries & coffee spots you must try in Copenhagen

You can’t say Denmark without saying bread and pastries. While Copenhagen has an old school bakery on almost every street corner, fancy, high-end bakeries by world-renowned chefs have popped up around the city in recent years. When in Copenhagen, visiting one of these for bread, pastries and coffee is a must.

Here are four ultimate bakeries and coffee spots you must try in Copenhagen

Hart Bageri – a baker from the second-best restaurant in the world

Gammel Kongevej 109

Originally from San Francisco, Richard Hart moved to Copenhagen to bake for Noma, the second-best restaurant in the world. Baking for Noma is a mark of quality and seal of approval – the moment Hart opened Hart Bageri, people went bonkers, willing to stand in long lines to get a bite of the baked goods at Hart Bageri. Grab a coffee with beans from Prolog and choose one out of five types of loaves of bread and pastries at Hart.

Juno the bakery – Swedish style bakery

Århusgade 48

With a similar story as Hart, Juno the Bakery is opened by another Noma-alum, who’s originally from Sweden. That characteristic is what made Juno the bakery unique and crazy popular. People will stand in long lines to try the Swedish style cardamom knots which are an absolute pastry dream. Juno also serves delicious sourdough buns with cheese.
Around the corner, the owner has opened another cafe, At the Counter, which has more seating space as well as a more elaborate menu – a perfect brunch and breakfast spot that also serves delicious coffee.

Mirabelle – by one of the world’s best chefs

Guldbergsgade 29

Some say that Mirabelle was the first mover bakery that fueled the trend of the hip, artisanal bakeries in Copenhagen. Mirabelle is owned by the world-renowned chef Christian Puglisi who’s also the master chef behind Bæst that serves some of the best pizza in Copenhagen as well as Relæ, a restaurant that can be found on the list of the world’s best restaurants.

At Mirabelle, you can pop in for a quick coffee and croissant ordered through the ‘to go’-window. Or you can sit down and enjoy a plate of delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch.

Lille Bakery – Hipster heaven in Refshaleøen

Refshalevej 213a

In a funky, hipster area of Copenhagen that’s currently seeing a lot of development, Lille Bakery opened up almost two years ago in a large industrial space. The artisanal bakery and cafe are opened by a team of three chefs that met each other while working for Noma’s younger sister, Restaurant 108.

Lille Bakery has a small menu that includes their take on a donut, a Berliner, bread, breakfast places and the lunch of the day. Everything tastes like a bite of heaven. Lille Bakery likes it simple, so there is no espresso machine. The coffee served is strong, black filter coffee.

Visiting these bakeries in Copenhagen might result in an intake of a few extra calories from the delicious pastries and pieces of bread. But we promise you it’s totally worth it!
